US: The National Insulation Association (NIA) has announced its new appointments to its executive committee and board of directors for 2024. Johns Manville’s senior industrial product manager Jack Bittner takes over as NIA president, with Performance Contracting’s senior vice president operations Rick Sutphin serving as president elect. Thermal Solutions’ president John Stevens will be NIA secretary and treasurer, and Systems Undercover’s operations manager Lee Stuckenschmidt will be assistant treasurer.

Representing different regions of the US on the board, Brian Willett of Gribbins Insulation Company will serve the Central States Association, Rick Baptista of Irex Contracting Group will serve the Eastern States Insulation Contractors Association, Matt Hymer of Midwest Materials will serve the Midwest Insulation Contractors Association, Matt Caldwell of Caldwell Insulation will serve the Southeastern Insulation Contractors Association, David Patrick of Specialty Products & Insulation will serve the Southwest Insulation Contractors Association and Shawn Reichenbach of Performance Contracting will serve the Western Insulation Contractors Association.

US: The National Insulation Association (NIA) has named Armacell, Johns Manville, Knauf Insulation, Owens Corning and Rockwool Technical Insulation as its Premier Industry Manufacturers 2023. The designation celebrates leadership and industry advocacy by NIA members.

NIA executive vice president and CEO Michele Jones said “Congratulations to these five leading companies! Each year, I am impressed by the way these NIA member companies find new, innovative and tangible ways to amplify the message about the power of insulation and their commitment to NIA. These manufacturers are setting themselves apart from the pack by demonstrating the importance of involvement and leadership. We look forward to promoting them all throughout 2023.”

US: The National Insulation Association (NIA) has announced the winners of its 2022 Safety Excellence Award and Premier Manufacturers Award winners. In the Safety Excellence Associate category, Johns Manville’s Denver, Colorado, plant, Knauf Insulation’s Shelbyville, Indiana, plant, Owens Corning’s Toledo, Ohio, plant and Proto Corporation’s Clearwater, Florida, plant all won Platinum awards. Meanwhile, the NIA’s Premier Industry Manufacturers for the year were Armacell, Johns Manville, Knauf Insulation and Owens Corning.

US: The National Insulation Association (NIA) has named three insulation producers as winners of its 2021 Premier Industry Manufacturer award. Armacell, Johns Manville and Owens Corning won the nationwide award. The association’s Platinum Safety Excellence awards were presented to six insulation producers: Armacell, CertainTeed Corporation, Dyplast Products, Johns Manville, Owens Corning and Canada-based Rockwool Technical Insulation. The award is the highest category of safety excellence award at the association’s National Insulation Association Awards 2021. It awarded Proto Corporation a gold Safety Excellence award.

Executive vice president and chief executive officer Michele Jones said, “Each year, we honour our member companies that prioritise safety and make continuous improvements to their programmes, and this year we do so knowing that a strong and well communicated safety programme is more important than ever.”

The association handed over the awards virtually at its Spring Summit in mid-March 2021.

Slovakia: US-based Johns Manville has commissioning of a 3t/hr glass fibre recycling unit at its Trnava engineered product plant. The company says that the facility will recycle waste glass fibres from continuous filament glass fibre recycling, reducing landfill waste by 10,000t/yr. The total cost of the installation is around Euro10m.

Europe/Asia environment, health and safety manager Elena Hrivikova said, “The primary goal of this investment is to achieve a tangible positive environmental impact by drastically reducing the landfilling of glass fibre waste. This project is part of our response to the European Commission’s Zero Waste programme and our overall target for sustainable management of the planet’s natural resources.”

Johns Manville’s Engineering Products division manufactures synthetic and glass fiber nonwoven products for construction such as insulation and gypsum board facers.

US: Johns Manville (JM) has appointed Bob Wamboldt as its president and chief executive officer (CEO) with effect from 1 September 2020. He succeeds Mary Rhinehart, the company’s current chairman, president and CEO, who will retain the role of chairman.

Wamboldt joined Johns Manville in 2003 and became president of JM’s Insulation Systems business in 2017. He earlier led the Engineered Products North America and Roofing Systems businesses at JM. Wamboldt is also chairman of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association and previously served as president of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association. Before joining Johns Manville, Wamboldt worked for 16 years at PPG Industries, where he held a variety of positions in the company’s Fiber Glass and Coatings divisions. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Lehigh University.

Greg Clarke will become president of JM’s Insulation Systems business with effect from 1 September 2020. He became JM’s Senior Vice President and chief financial officer (CFO) when he rejoined the company in 2013. In this role, he led JM’s finance organisation, global procurement and logistics operations, and corporate development activities. He previously worked for Johns Manville from 1997 to 2002 and was Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Building Insulation and Commercial & Industrial Insulation divisions.

Before returning to Johns Manville, Clarke was CFO and a director at AeroGrow International, an early-stage consumer products company, and president and CEO at Ankmar, a building products company. Earlier in his career, he held finance leadership and strategic planning roles at PepsiCo and The Coleman Company. Clarke earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Amherst College and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He serves on the AeroGrow board of directors and is a member of the board of Alumni and Friends of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado.

US: Johns Manville says that it has begun production of a new specially-developed coated polyester spunbond nonwoven fabric for use in Level 3 medical gowns for healthcare professionals fighting the coronavirus outbreak. It is producing the material, called Evalith, at its Spartanburg special applications building materials plant in South Carolina.

Johns Mansville engineered products president John Vasuta said, “Given the urgent need for action, we quickly decided to build on our own capabilities and develop a coated product to supply the domestic medical gown manufacturing industry. The fabric offers superior liquid barrier performance compared to materials used for Level 1 and Level 2 medical gowns, while also providing comfort and stitch-strength.”

US: The building products manufacturer Johns Manville has announced its acquisition of ITW Insulation Systems, which specialises in low-temperature polyisocyanurate foam insulation and metal jacketing solutions, for an undisclosed price. Business Wire has reported that the deal is scheduled for closure in December 2019. Johns Manville CEO and president Mary Rhinehart said that the acquisition ‘will give greater versatility to Johns Mansville’s robust and well-rounded portfolio of insulation solutions.’

US: The North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) has awarded R-Value Certification to Johns Manville’s fiberglass batt and narrow roll insulation products. NAIMA’s R-Value Certification program is a voluntary program that allows manufacturers to certify that the R-values for their products comply with the thermal performance requirements of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Home Insulation Rule. The have been tested by an independent, third party laboratory and meet the thermal performance required by the FTC. As per the FTC requirements, materials are tested using a standardised test method designed by ASTM International, an organisation that establishes internationally recognised test methods and standards.

US: Johns Manville (JM) plans to build a new fibreglass insulation production line at its McPherson plant in Kansas. The new line will produce its Climate Pro blowing wool product. JM will begin construction on the expansion project later in 2019 pending various governmental approvals. It anticipates the completion in early 2021. When complete, JM will employ more than 330 people in McPherson.
